As I write this post, I'm having trouble describing the mirade of emotions and feelings that have been ignited in my heart, mind and soul. To say that I enjoyed reading this novel is a gross understatement. 'Captivated' would be a much better term to use in describing how I have been affected by this book.
I have to say that CCFF really pushed the pen when it comes to modesty and church propriety. When I read the first couple of chapters I was taken aback by the language. However, I decided to let go of my inhibitions and read the rest of the story. I learned a long time ago that you can't make clear and honest critiques and judgments without knowing the whole matter.
So, after reading the whole novel cover to cover from 2am-11am, I have concluded that it is one of the best novels I have ever read in my life!
Just as 'Linden Hills', you forced me to rethink some of my values and issues. With 'Linden Hills' I had to choose whether to accept the American Dream as is or to allow God to work His Dream for my life. Among other things, your novel challenges me to open up my mind to the possibility that true love does exist and that it can happen for me if I am willing to accept it in WHATEVAH package it comes in!
You have chronicled and showcased a side of Christian love and sexuality that is rarely talked about, much less written about. At first I was hiding my eyes from some of the sex scenes as if I were confronted with a pornographic image. But I decided to make myself read through them. I am glad I did. From a literary standpoint you had to be as descriptive as you were in order to successfully juxtapose 'casual sex' and true love making as God intended. Although the 'actions' of sex were the same, you allowed Thalia to experience the God-intended spiritual, mental, emotional and physical side of love making. Thank you for that! You made sex between two God-fearing people oh so desirable.
This novel made me cry, laugh, nervous, frustrated, excited, elated, and even a bit jealous. What a fantastic writer you are. I can not wait to read the other novels you've written.
Thank you again for taking me on the trip of a lifetime!
